Its a matter of pride and honor for me to take over as Editor in Chief of Pigment International Journal, the official journal for Pigmentary Disorders Society (PDS). The pressing need for a journal targeting primarily the pigment disorders in India was felt by Prof Rashmi Sarkar when she founded the PDS way back in 2012.[1] Pigment International Journal was initiated in year 2014 and became the official journal of PDS with an aim to further strengthen the clinical and research work and spread the knowledge among experts working in pigmentary dermatosis all around the world.

I extend my gratefulness to my predecessors Prof D.M. Thappa (2014–2016) and Prof Rashmi Sarkar (2017–2021). I applaud them for their ever-tiring commitment and hard work put in to uplift the journal to its current status. The new editorial team members are indebted to my predecessors and we will continue to take their valuable guidance time to time as we traverse along. Pigment International Journal was initially conceived as a biannual journal, from this year on three issues will be rolled out.

At Pigment International, we strive to color the scientific world with edifying literature, each of which is handpicked after rigorous peer review. Our editorial team boast of the ease of accessibility, our forte. Our area of interest is research in the field of pigmentary disorders, be it from the aspects of molecular biology to systematic reviews and meta-analysis. We also have digital archiving and ahead of print policy. We are thus an amalgamation of both content and style, backed by team of expert reviewers, editors, and authors.

I have the privilege of serving as deputy editor (2016–2021) in Indian Dermatology Online Journal under able guidance of Prof Sunil Dogra. I am section editor at Frontier Journal of Allergy and served as section editor for Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology in the past. With this background, I perceive the implications and relevance of efficiency of editorial team, peer review process, and ethics in handling manuscripts thus protecting scientific values of publications. I am fortunate to have support of Dr Vinay Keshavmurthy who will be serving as associate editor along with Dr Shekar Neema as I commence this esteemed journey. My strength will also be Prof Rashmi Sarkar who will be our backbone as Editor Emeritus and wonderful impressive team of deputy editors, section editors, and assistant editors apart from distinguished members of editorial board.

The Pigment International Journal has progressively grown and now it is a Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)-indexed journal. In its recent amendment, DOAJ indexing is recognized by Medical Council of India for purpose of publications required for promotion of teaching medical faculty. The number of manuscript submissions with us has increased as years passed with quality papers pertaining to pigment dermatosis. I understand that the most pertinent factors necessary for journal’s success is submission of high-quality manuscripts, dedicated editorial board members, and reviewers for timely editorial process.

As said earlier, we will take absolute care and professionalism for through peer review process of all submitted manuscripts without any fringe of conflict of interest. We will aim for rapid turnaround time from submission to decision taking. From this issue onwards, we have introduced a new section in journal titled “Grand Rounds in Pigment Dermatology” which will be particularly useful for postgraduate students. This will have one examination case discussed in detail by a postgraduate examiner and the first author will be a postgraduate himself/herself.

With the unconditional support from my editorial team, I will aim for PubMed indexing and subsequently for impact factor generation for Pigment International Journal. To achieve the same, we require more and more quality original articles to be published. The Pigment International stands as alone warrior among the other established national journals, cutting a niche for itself.

At this moment, I thank my teachers, senior colleagues, and patients who continue to teach me and also extend my gratitude toward Department of Dermatology, PGIMER, Chandigarh for supporting me always. As I look ahead for this new role, I accept inputs from our readers and contributors to augment the overall quality and output of the journal. Along with my scholastic editorial board, I will work devotedly to take the journal up to the next level.

With best wishes

Jai Hind!
